Mission Statement for Minds of Men

Minds of Men is a spiritually-driven grassroots organization dedicated to serving marginalized populations, including the homeless, individuals battling addiction, those impacted by mass incarceration, and the children who bear the weight of these societal issues. Founded in 2006 amidst the alarming rise of violence in Philadelphia—marked by 406 homicides—Minds of Men was born out of a commitment to address the untreated trauma within the community. This untreated trauma often perpetuates cycles of addiction, violence, incarceration, and despair.

Our mission is to provide comprehensive resources and support to individuals seeking change, equipping them with the tools to achieve financial stability, self-sufficiency, and personal growth. Through workshops, outreach programs, and access to essential services like employment opportunities, housing, and training, we aim to uplift and empower our participants.

Over the years, Minds of Men has been recognized for its transformative impact, including receiving a citation from the Philadelphia City Council for exceptional community service. To date, we have assisted thousands of individuals through a range of services and initiatives, such as domestic violence workshops, food and clothing distribution, and motivational speaking engagements at over 40 facilities and organizations.

Our philosophy is rooted in the belief that by cultivating self-esteem and resilience in individuals today, we can foster a brighter future for the generations of tomorrow. Under the visionary leadership of our Founder and President, Derrick McKnight, whose personal mantra is, "This is my passion, my purpose," Minds of Men continues to be a beacon of hope and transformation for communities in need.

Together, we strive to rebuild lives, restore dignity, and create sustainable pathways to success.
